are the differences between the various
Spectro EczemaCare products?
Spectro EczemaCare Medicated cream is a
drug product. Spectro Intense
Rehydration Cream and Intense Moisturizing Cream are cosmetics. Intense
Moisturizing Cream and Kids Body Wash are indicated for children.
What
is the difference between OTC and BTC?
OTC is "over the
counter" and as it relates to a drug usually
infers the product is available without a prescription.
BTC or "behind the counter" is
a specific class of nonprescription products
that are found in the restricted areas
of pharmacies for which a pharmacist is
required to provide the product to a consumer.
BTC products are found behind the pharmacist's
counter however are usually visible to
consumers.
How
long has Spectro EczemaCare Medicated Cream
been sold?
Topical preparations
containing clobetasone butyrate have been
available for approximately 25 years. Eumovate
was originally approved as a prescription product
in January 1979. In 2006, Eumovate was approved
for sale behind the counter without a prescription.
In 2007 the product name changed from Eumovate
to Spectro EczemaCare Medicated Cream.
Why
was Spectro EczemaCare Medicated Cream switched
from Rx to BTC?
We switched the product
to make a safe and effective treatment available
without a prescription.
How
does Spectro EczemaCare
Medicated Cream work?
Spectro EczemaCare
Medicated is a moderately potent topical steroid
used in the treatment of eczema/dermatitis.
Spectro EczemaCare Medicated helps stop the
itching and redness associated with eczema.
The cream base has moisturizing properties.
Clobetasone butyrate has been shown to have
topical and systemic pharmacologic and metabolic
effects characteristic of the corticosteroid
class of drugs. However,
while the physiologic, pharmacologic and clinical
effects of the corticosteroids are well known,
the exact mechanisms of their actions in each
disease are uncertain.
Is
Spectro EczemaCare
Medicated Cream safe for use during pregnancy?
Women who are pregnant
should consult their physician before using Spectro
EczemaCare Medicated Cream.
What
is Clobetasone Butyrate (the medicinal ingredient
in Spectro EczemaCare Medicated Cream)?
Clobetasone Butyrate
0.05% is a moderately potent corticosteriod which
can be used topically as an effective and safe
method for controlling the symptoms of eczema
(atopic dermatitis) and other dermatoses.
